Hyundai i30 N Gets a Facelift and Performance Upgrades

The Hyundai i30 N is set to receive a series of updates, with production versions expected to hit Australian roads in early 2021. The updates include performance enhancements, new features, and a refreshed design.

The i30 N Fastback has been spotted undergoing testing on Australian roads, indicating the arrival of the updated model. However, the most hardcore version of the update remains under wraps, as seen in the test car rolling around Sydney. The car's exterior hides big vents and spoilers that are expected to feature in the high-performance variant.

One of the significant changes in the updated i30 N is the addition of forged alloy wheels, a feature that saves 14kg of unsprung mass from the i30 N chassis. The wheels will come with sticky Pirelli P Zero rubber, ensuring optimal grip and handling.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine in the i30 N has been improved, resulting in a peak torque of 392Nm and power of 206kW. These enhancements have chopped two tenths of a second from the i30 N's zero to 100km/h acceleration, now over in 5.9 seconds.

The updated i30 N will introduce an automatic transmission, with eight ratios and sporty dual-clutch technology. The transmission will be a version of Hyundai's dual-clutch automatic, albeit with a maximum of seven speeds. The i30 N offers paddle shifters, three driving programs, and additional performance modes like N Power Shift and N Grin.

The i30 N hatch and fastback have been updated with an engine retune, weight reduction, brake upgrade, and interior enhancements. The hatchback versions add blind-spot collision warning and assistance, and rear cross-traffic warning and avoidance assistance. The fastback shares all upgrades except for tail end aesthetic changes, including the hatchback's spoiler which produces useful downforce.

The new look i30 N features sharper LED lighting headlight and taillight accents, revised front and rear bumpers, and aerodynamic improvements. However, little is revealed by the test car regarding the new look apart from redesigned headlights that are peeping through the heavy camouflage.

The updated i30 N offers a Performance Pack with more powerful brakes, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and N Light seats with a combination of leather and Alcantara synthetic suede upholstery. The car maker has only revealed the facelifted look of the entry-level variants and the mid-range N-Line, not the most hardcore version of the update.

The updated and improved Hyundai i30 N was offered in Australian market regions including New South Wales (NSW) and Queensland (QLD) during the first half of 2021, with vehicles available in locations such as Campbelltown (NSW) and Southport (QLD). The i30 N Fastback now includes forward collision avoidance that detects vehicles and pedestrians/cyclists, and lane-following assistance.

The i30 N prototype's massive skeletal wheels will be a production feature, adding to the car's sporty and aggressive appearance. The updated i30 N is set to offer an exciting driving experience with its performance enhancements and new features. Stay tuned for more updates on the Hyundai i30 N.
