Hyundai previews compact Ioniq electric vehicle model set for unveiling in Munich
Hyundai is set to release two more sets of teasers before the grand unveiling of the Ioniq concept on September 9, 2025, at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich. The event runs until the 14th of September.
The Ioniq concept, following Hyundai’s design philosophy called "Art of Steel," is expected to be one of Hyundai's most important models. The design showcases a bold, sculpted look, featuring a chunky fastback-style silhouette, a ducktail spoiler, flared arches, and a more aggressive chin and bumper detailing. Full-width LED strips front and rear, similar to the facelifted Ioniq 6, add a modern touch to the concept's design.
The Ioniq concept is expected to evolve into the production Ioniq 2, which is anticipated to slot above the new Inster and offer an all-electric alternative to the i20. If launched with the stated specifications, the Ioniq 2 could compete with subcompact EVs like the BYD Dolphin and MG4.
The production Ioniq 2 is expected to feature a 150kW motor and a 58.3kWh battery, paired with Hyundai-Kia's E-GMP platform, which it is expected to share with upcoming Kia EV2 and EV3 crossovers. Spy shots of camouflaged prototypes suggest the Ioniq 2 may wear show-car bodywork and bespoke wheels.
Hyundai has been tight-lipped about the specific designer of the new electric concept, but the company has confirmed that it follows Hyundai’s design philosophy. The design of the Ioniq concept will be revealed in stages through these teasers.
The production version of the Ioniq 2 could hit showrooms in the first half of 2026. With its bold design and competitive specifications, the Ioniq 2 is poised to make a significant impact in the subcompact EV market. Stay tuned for more updates as Hyundai continues to release teasers leading up to the September 9 unveiling.
