Humanitarian Charlie Coffey wins CA$25M LOTTO MAX jackpot by chance
A long-time humanitarian and Officer of the Order of Canada has become the latest LOTTO MAX jackpot winner. Charles Coffey, known as Charlie, claimed the CA$25 million prize on January 31, 2025. The win came as a shock while he was simply refuelling his car at a Toronto Shell station. Charlie initially believed he had won CA$25,000. It was only later that he realised the ticket was worth CA$25 million. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) confirmed his win on Friday.
The 80-year-old has spent decades supporting Indigenous communities, children, and liberal causes. In 2003, he received the Officer of the Order of Canada for his humanitarian efforts. Indigenous leaders have also honoured him with the title of Honorary Chief. Charlie has long focused on empowering organisations rather than giving direct handouts. He now plans to use his winnings to improve Toronto, Ontario, and Canada as a whole.
The CA$25 million jackpot will allow Charlie to expand his charitable work. His approach remains rooted in long-term support rather than short-term aid. The OLG's announcement marks a new chapter for both the winner and the causes he champions.
