In a shocking turn of events, the Houthi government in Yemen has announced the death of President Ahmed al-Rahaui and several top officials, following an Israeli airstrike in Sanaa. The attack occurred a few days prior to the announcement.

The Israeli air force targeted a "military target of the Houthi terror regime" in the Sanaa area, according to reports. The latest Israeli airstrike reportedly killed al-Rahaui and several other members of the Houthi group, including ministers.

Upon announcing al-Rahaui's death, the Houthi group immediately appointed Mohammed Ahmed as acting president. Ahmed, who previously served as al-Rahaui's deputy, will now lead the Houthi government, which is not recognised internationally.

The Houthi group, officially known as "Ansar Allah" ("Supporters of God"), is considered the strongest force in Yemen where a civil war has been ongoing since 2014. The group was founded about 30 years ago by Abdel Malik al-Huthi, who remains the leader.

Ahmed al-Rahaui was appointed as president by the Houthi group last year, but was seen as a symbolic figure with little real power. The current acting president of the Huthi government in Yemen is Mahdi al-Mashat, who serves as the president of the Houthi government, while Mohammed Ahmed has been appointed as the acting prime minister.

The Houthi group has been attacking commercial ships and occasionally Israel since the start of the Gaza war nearly two years ago, claiming to support the Palestinians. However, the group has not been recognised internationally.

The Houthi government stated that it will continue its work in Sanaa and the northern parts of Yemen, which it has controlled for nearly a decade. Despite the loss of their president, it seems the Houthi group will persevere in their efforts.

This news comes as a significant development in the ongoing conflict in Yemen, and the international community will likely be watching closely to see how events unfold.
