Hospitalized Bus Driver from Wuppertal Following Assault
In an unfortunate incident that occurred last night in Wuppertal-Barmen, a city bus driver was severely injured in an attack. The attacker, an unknown 20-year-old man, has now been identified and arrested.
According to initial police findings, the man attempted to board the bus at a traffic light where there was no designated bus stop. In an attempt to avoid detection, he took a shortcut and reappeared several stops later in front of the bus. The altercation presumably took place at the next bus stop.
The assailant, who has Turkish-German citizenship, presented himself at the police station on September 5, 2025, and was arrested. He is suspected of attacking the bus driver after being refused entry at a red light. The bus driver, a 47-year-old city employee, was hospitalized due to the injuries sustained in the attack and has since been released from the hospital.
Wuppertal City Works has expressed shock at the attack on their employee and has offered a reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. The prosecution is investigating the case as grievous bodily harm, and the police are still seeking witnesses to the incident.
