Honda poised to collaborate with Toyota, BMW, and other automakers in developing Solid State Batteries for electric vehicles.

In a significant development for the electric vehicle (EV) industry, BMW has partnered with Solid Power, a US-based EV battery maker, to develop the next generation of solid state batteries for electric cars. This partnership is just one of many as the race to bring these revolutionary batteries to market heats up.

Solid state batteries, which replace the liquid electrolyte in lithium-ion batteries with a solid material, are promising a smaller size, higher capacity, lower cost, and the elimination of cooling and management systems that lithium-ion batteries require. The development of these batteries for EVs is looking more and more like a certainty for production.

Volkswagen has invested £75 million in QuantumScape, a California battery tech company, with the aim to deliver solid state batteries for EVs by 2025. Toyota and Nissan are also starting to join the race, with Toyota expected to deliver these batteries in the near future.

Honda, another major player, is actively researching solid-state battery technologies. The Japanese car maker is planning to spend £30bn on electrification, which includes a new electric NSX, solid-state batteries, and more. Honda has denied recent reports of sharing its Solid State battery development with other car makers, but is considering commercializing the technology in the late 2020s.

Dyson is reportedly planning to use solid state batteries for their electric cars, and Honda's electrification push is expected to lead to a range of new EVs, including a solid-state battery-powered vehicle.

The development of solid state batteries has been touted as the major breakthrough needed in battery technology to make electric cars mainstream. With companies like BMW, Toyota, Volkswagen, Honda, and Dyson investing heavily in this technology, it seems that the future of EVs is looking brighter than ever.

Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development in the world of electric vehicles.
