Holy Cross Stands Firm on Providing Tuition Assistance for Families with Income below $100,000
The College of the Holy Cross: A Commitment to Accessibility and Affordability
The College of the Holy Cross, located in Worcester, Massachusetts, continues to make strides in providing an affordable and accessible education for students from diverse backgrounds.
In a move aimed at reducing financial barriers, President Vincent D. Rougeau announced that starting the upcoming academic year, the College will cover full tuition for students from families with an annual income of less than $100,000. This decision follows the College's existing policy of covering tuition for students from families with annual incomes less than $75,000.
The College meets 100% of a student's demonstrated financial need at the time of admission. In the 2022-2023 academic year, 65% of the student body benefited from $76.5 million in need-based scholarships, bringing the average cost for students after financial aid to $36,000.
The Financial Aid Office personally reviews and allocates money based on students' FAFSA and CSS profiles, ensuring that each student receives the support they need to attend the College.
In other news, the College recently purchased the 300,000 square foot Rotmans Furniture property on 725 Southbridge Street. Speculation amongst students on The Hill includes the possibility of creating off-campus dorms, a food spot, and other facilities using this property.
President Rougeau, who became the first Black president and the first who is not a priest in the college's history in 2021, has made it clear that one of Holy Cross' top priorities is to ensure that talented students from all backgrounds can access a Holy Cross education.
The College has a long-standing commitment to making higher education accessible. It was among the first colleges in the nation to adopt test optional policies in 2005 and was ranked number five in Money Magazine's list of "Best Value Liberal Arts Colleges."
As the College prepares for the aftermath of the 2024 election, organizations and clubs like the Democratic Futures Forum, the McFarland Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture, and Campus Activities Board (CAB) are being active, reflecting the College's commitment to fostering a vibrant and engaged community.
With these initiatives and more, the College of the Holy Cross continues to demonstrate its dedication to providing an affordable and accessible education for all.
