Holidaying British tourist's unfortunate demise uncovered by authorities, identified following her unexplained disappearance from a sun lounger on a Greek getaway, with her body subsequently discovered in the sea.

British Tourist Michele Bourda's Tragic Death on a Greek Beach

Michele Bourda, a 62-year-old British tourist, lost her life on a Greek beach in August. Her husband, Chris Bourda, has accused local authorities of being slow and unhelpful in the search for his wife.

According to Chris, the police did not deploy dogs, drones, or helicopters in the search for Michele. He also claimed that it took the police two hours to arrive after being called by a shopkeeper. A waiter, upon being asked if Michele was missing, initially laughed and only took Chris seriously after he explained that his wife had "psychological problems."

Chris and Michele had met while they were both university students in Germany 36 years ago. The couple had been enjoying a six-week holiday after visiting family before Michele's disappearance. On August 1, Michele vanished from a sunbed on the beach.

In the aftermath, Chris panicked and scoured the beach, checked the toilets, and asked nearby holidaymakers if they had seen Michele. He told how he was laughed at and had his pleas for help dismissed. The Greek Ombudsman (Συνήγορος του Πολίτη) accused the police for the slow handling and identified deficiencies in the investigation of Michelle Bourda’s disappearance on the Greek coast.

The police took two hours to arrive after being called by a shopkeeper. Boats were only deployed in the early morning or night, according to Chris, to not disturb or concern tourists.

Tragically, Michele's body was found floating off Fidonisi Island more than a month after she was last seen. Chris had to identify her "by her bones." Evidence of an operation on Michele Bourda's chest was crucial to the identification process.

Medical experts ruled out foul play and confirmed that Michele Bourda died as a result of drowning. Forensic scientist Nikos Kifnidis confirmed Michele Bourda's death was a result of drowning. Chris Bourda, Michele's husband, has since filed a complaint against local police and coastguard for their handling of Michele Bourda's disappearance.

Chris Bourda accused local authorities of being "criminally slow" during the search for his wife. He expressed his disappointment and frustration, stating that the authorities could have done more to find his wife sooner. The case has sparked a debate about the response of Greek authorities in missing persons cases, particularly involving foreign tourists.
