Historically rooted brewery-inn from Bavaria shuts down - "Deeply regrettable"
A beloved traditional brewery inn in Franconia, Bavaria, has announced its closure, leaving locals and visitors alike in a state of sadness. The inn, which has been serving patrons since 1568, has been a staple of the region for over four centuries.
Gisela Herold and Regina Haas, the inn's owners, shared the news on Facebook, citing staff shortages as the primary reason for the closure. The team at the inn has been shrinking, making it difficult to keep up when the inn is full. Sick leave cannot be covered anymore due to the shortage of staff.
The inn takes pride in its Beck'n beer, which has been brewed with selected hops and malt over real wooden fire for over 400 years. Besides the beer, the inn offered crispy fried potatoes, homemade bread, and Franconian snacks. All these offerings will now be missed by guests.
One long-time guest expressed their sorrow over having to miss the inn's fine and delicious dishes, including the beer, fried potatoes, homemade sausages, cake, stollen during Advent and Christmas, and the overall atmosphere and conversations. Another guest implored, "Please keep going, don't give up."
The closure of the inn is a significant loss for the region, with a significant number of guests expressing their sadness about the closure. In an interview with inbayreuth.de, the details of the closure were revealed.
The new owners of the traditional brewery in Franconia, which will close in August 2025, are not explicitly named in the search results. However, there's mention of a "beer investor" who benefits from the closure of Lang-Brรคu and Michael Falter managing a brewery in Drachselsried since 20 years ago, but no direct link to the closing Franconian brewery is provided.
Despite the closure, the inn's owners expressed their gratitude for the guests' long-standing loyalty. One guest wrote, "This is one of the saddest posts of 2025." Another guest stated, "You will remain my gold standard for a long time."
The inn's last day of operation will be Sunday, August 31, 2025. The closure of this iconic inn marks the end of an era for the region, and it will be missed by many.
