Historic Powerball draw offers sixth billion-dollar prize ever

The Powerball jackpot has reached an unprecedented height, soaring to a staggering $1 billion for the Saturday night drawing. This is the sixth-largest jackpot in Powerball's history and promises to create excitement and anticipation among players across the United States.

Since its first drawing in 1992, Powerball has generated over $36 billion for good causes supported by U.S. lotteries. The game, which is sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, has created numerous millionaires over the years.

The current streak without a jackpot winner stands at 39 drawings. During this period, the game has produced 62 million-dollar winners and 608 tickets worth $50,000 or more. Six tickets matched all five white balls and the red Powerball in the previous drawing, each winning $1 million or more.

Game officials increased the jackpot estimate from $950 million on Friday morning. If won, the lucky ticket holder could opt for a cash payment of $453.1 million before taxes, or choose the annuity option. This option provides one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.

The Powerball Product Group Chair, Matt Strawn, expressed his excitement for the billion-dollar jackpot on Labor Day Weekend. He stated, "This is a historic moment for Powerball and for lottery players across the nation. The anticipation is palpable, and we can't wait to see if someone will become an instant millionaire or even billionaire this Saturday night."

The record Powerball jackpot stands at $2.04 billion, won by a California player in November 2022. However, as of now, there is no confirmed information about a winner of a Powerball jackpot worth $1 billion on Saturday evening. The identity of such a winner, if any, has not been disclosed or reported.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play. The drawing will be broadcast live at 10:59 p.m. ET and streamed on Powerball's website. With odds of winning the Powerball jackpot at 1 in 292.2 million, the odds may be against you, but as they say, you've got to be in it to win it!

It's important to note that more than half of ticket sale proceeds remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold, contributing significantly to various good causes and community projects.

So, don't miss your chance to be part of Powerball history this Saturday night. Good luck, and remember, every ticket purchased helps support worthwhile causes in your community!
