Highly valued movie prop, Darth Vader's lightsaber, to be sold at auction
Blockbuster Movie Memorabilia Up for Grabs in Historic Auction
Get ready, movie enthusiasts! A three-day online event hosted by Propstore, a Los Angeles company specializing in movie memorabilia, is about to conclude today. This auction, one of the largest single sales of movie props and artifacts in the industry's history, is expected to raise tens of millions of dollars.
The auction features more than 1,000 lots of movie props, including items from iconic films such as 'Alien', 'Armageddon', 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade', and 'Men in Black'. Among the treasures up for grabs is the electro biomechanical neural transmitting zero-synapse repositioner (neuralyzer) from 'Men in Black', valued at a whopping $150,000.
One of the most valuable lots in the auction is Darth Vader's lightsaber from 'The Empire Strikes Back' (1980) and 'Return of the Jedi' (1983), valued at up to $3 million. This lightsaber, Propstore claims, is the only hero lightsaber prop with verifiable screen-use to ever be offered at public auction. It's worn and has several dings and imperfections, which Propstore said enhances its authenticity and value.
For fans of science fiction, a Roman soldier's outfit from the 1959 classic 'Ben-Hur' is among the items in the auction. If action is more your style, you might be interested in Kiefer Sutherland's Counter Terrorism Unit badge worn by his character Jack Bauer in the television series '24'.
If you're a fan of comedy, Jeff Bridges' costume worn as the Dude in the 1998 comedy 'The Big Lebowski' is up for sale. And for those who can't get enough of superheroes, Michael Keaton's Batman suit from the 1989 movie of the same name is for sale, valued at US$500,000.
In a unique twist, Tom Hanks' blood-stained companion volleyball 'Wilson' from the movie 'Cast Away' is part of the auction. The current bid for this iconic prop is double its estimated US$40,000 value.
Propstore strives to present the pieces with the same level of care that went into their presentation on screen. The auction is being held in California.
Lastly, for those who appreciate the timeless beauty of 'Barbarella', the auction features Jane Fonda's figure-hugging catsuit from the 1968 movie, valued at up to US$10,000. A brown leather suit of armor from the Black Queen's Black Guard in 'Barbarella' is also available in the auction, valued at up to $10,000.
So, gear up, movie fans! This is your chance to own a piece of cinematic history. Bid now before it's too late!
