High-Speed Travel Through Police Checkpoint at 164 km/h
Last weekend, police forces in Bremen took to the streets and highways for a comprehensive traffic check operation. The results were striking, with numerous offenses recorded and an immediate impoundment of a vehicle due to technical modifications.
The most significant speeding violation occurred on Stapelfeldtstraße in Gröpelingen, where a vehicle was clocked at 164 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Elsewhere, speeds of 174 km/h were recorded on the A27, far exceeding the 120 km/h limit. As a result, at least ten drivers were caught speeding and now face potential driving bans of one to three months.
In addition to speeding, other offenses noted during the checks include running red lights and using mobile phones while driving. Specialists from the traffic surveillance unit, operating in civilian vehicles, were on duty to ensure thorough monitoring.
One vehicle was immediately impounded due to technical modifications. The fitted tires/wheels of the impounded vehicle resulted in the revocation of its operating permit, as they touched the wheel arch, posing a significant risk to road safety. The impounded vehicle also had a different suspension installed.
A 20-year-old is facing prosecution for driving without a license. No information was provided about the number of drivers caught for the mentioned offenses other than the one facing prosecution. Two drivers who were still in their probationary period may be ordered to attend a retraining course by the licensing authority. However, no information was provided about any potential retraining courses for the offenses other than the possibility for these two drivers.
Laser measurements were carried out during the traffic checks to ensure accuracy in speed recording. The drivers now face substantial fines, points on their license, and multi-month driving bans.
Police forces in Bremen continue to emphasize the importance of safe and responsible driving, reminding motorists that such offenses not only put lives at risk but also result in severe penalties.
