The Colorado-based startup, Spike Aerospace, is making waves in the aviation industry with its upcoming S-512 Ambassador and S-512 Diplomat supersonic business jets. The S-512 Ambassador, expected to enter service in 2031, is set to redefine long-distance travel, offering the speed of supersonic travel with the comfort and discretion of a private jet.

Vik Kachoria, the president and CEO of Spike Aerospace, has stated that the S-512 Ambassador, like its counterpart the S-512 Diplomat, is being engineered to connect cities quietly and sustainably. This focus on minimizing noise pollution is a response to the world's only commercial supersonic jet, the Concorde, whose boom traveled for miles and caused havoc, leading to the supersonic overland ban.

Spike Aerospace is currently completing a study to redefine the aerodynamics, cabin space, and performance of the S-512 Ambassador. The company plans to move towards a supersonic demonstrator by the end of next year for the S-512 Ambassador, following a similar path it took with the development of the S-512 Diplomat, an 18-passenger jet designed for overland travel with a theoretical top speed of Mach 1.6 (1,100 mph). This jet is engineered to connect cities like New York and Paris in under four hours.

The founder of Spike Aerospace, Ajay Agrawal, aims to demonstrate that its commercial airliner, the Overture, can reach Mach 1.7 (1,304 mph). The S-512 Ambassador will also cut flight time by half on some routes, while its "quiet" boom's decibel levels will only be heard as a quiet clap from the ground.

The cabin of the S-512 Ambassador will feature noise levels of about 60 dBa, similar to a dishwasher or office, ensuring a comfortable travel experience for passengers. To enhance this experience, the S-512 Ambassador will replace windows with digital screens that allow exterior views through cameras or the ability to watch movies while soaring.

The White House has announced a new executive order to re-establish the United States as the leader in high-speed aviation. However, the new executive order does not specify whether it will lift the supersonic overland ban for the S-512 Ambassador or other supersonic aircraft.

Boom Supersonic, another player in the supersonic aviation field, has already achieved supersonic speeds with its XB-1 test aircraft, reaching Mach 1.122 (750 mph). The race is on to redefine the future of travel, and Spike Aerospace's S-512 Ambassador is poised to lead the way.
