High-Performance Mercedes Concept AMG GT XX Sets New Global Record for Speedy Circulation

The Mercedes-AMG Concept AMG GT XX, an electric vehicle prototype, has made headlines with its impressive performance during an eight-day challenge at the Nardo circuit in Italy. The vehicle averaged over 5300km per day, maintaining a steady speed of 300km/h, even as ambient temperatures exceeded 35°C.

This gruelling test was designed to demonstrate the capabilities of AMG's next-generation electric architecture, the AMG.EA technology. Two Concept AMG GT XX vehicles completed the challenge, running in parallel and covering 3177 laps each.

The Concept AMG GT XX is equipped with three axial-flux motors and an 800V, liquid-cooled battery system. These motors deliver more than 1000kW, or over 1360hp, and the axial flux motors have approximately three times the power density of a conventional EV motor.

During the challenge, the Concept AMG GT XX achieved charge rates of around 850 kW during pit stops, and Mercedes claims that five minutes on a prototype charger could add 400km of range to the vehicle.

The Concept AMG GT XX's battery system is part of the AMG.EA next-generation electric architecture, which also borrows from Formula One technology with a new 800V, liquid-cooled battery design. This ensures repeatable high-output bursts and ultra-fast charging.

After more than a week of non-stop driving, the two Concept AMG GT XX vehicles finished just 25km apart. This demonstrates the vehicle's marathon stamina, a quality praised by Mercedes-AMG F1 driver George Russell, who tested the Concept AMG GT XX and compared its responsiveness to a Formula One drivetrain but with endurance similar to combustion engines.

The records set by the Concept AMG GT XX, including 25 in total, are undoubtedly headlines, but the bigger story is AMG's confidence in the blend of blistering speed and marathon stamina offered by the AMG.EA technology. This confidence is shared by Chief Engineer Oliver Wiech, who announced that the next Mercedes-AMG models will be equipped with the technology proven in the Concept AMG GT XX.

The introduction of the AMG.EA technology and the records set by the Concept AMG GT XX are significant steps for AMG in the electric vehicle market. Production models using the AMG.EA technology are expected to debut next year.
