High-capacity PCIe 6.0 SSDs boasting speeds of 28GB/s are imminent, potentially making Meta an early adopter among first users.

FADU, a leading player in the storage industry, made several significant announcements during its keynote address at the Future of Memory and Storage 2025 conference in Seoul. The event, marking FADU's 10th anniversary, was a platform for the company to showcase its latest advancements and long-term vision.

FADU's CEO, Lee Ji-hyo, revealed the company's ambitious plans to reduce costs in large-scale data centers with its new energy monitoring features, developed in collaboration with industry partners. While specific details about these features have yet to be disclosed, the focus is on improving efficiency and reducing energy consumption, a crucial aspect in today's AI-driven era.

Lee Ji-hyo also underscored FADU's long-term vision, which revolves around creating Solid State Drives (SSDs) with greater capacity, faster performance, and higher efficiency. This vision was further highlighted with the unveiling of FADU's PCIe 6.0 controller, codenamed Sierra.

The Sierra controller, supported by Meta engineer Ross Stenfort, boasts capacities up to 512TB and sequential speeds of 28GB/s. It delivers random read performance of 6.9 million IOPS while operating under 9W, demonstrating FADU's commitment to efficiency and performance.

FADU has already secured SSD controller supply deals with two of the world's largest cloud service operators, including Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. The company aims to expand its reach further, with plans to supply to all four major hyperscalers within the next two to three years. Meta is widely viewed as a strong candidate to be one of these hyperscalers.

In addition to its existing partnerships, FADU is in talks with another hyperscaler and expects to finalize that deal by the end of this year. However, the company has not yet shared any information about potential collaborations with AMD.

Looking ahead, FADU expects its Gen6 line of SSD controllers to launch in 2026. While specific details about the performance or capacity of these controllers have not been announced, the company aims to lead the storage market with SSDs that meet the demands of the AI era.

The energy monitoring features and the Sierra controller are significant steps forward for FADU, further solidifying its position as a key player in the storage industry. As the company continues to innovate and expand its partnerships, it is poised to make a significant impact on the future of data storage.
