Herford Central Station gets a life-saving defibrillator thanks to local advocate
A new defibrillator is now available at Herford Central Station, thanks to local businessman Thorsten Nerlich. The life-saving device cost around €2,000 and marks another step in his long-running campaign to improve emergency care across the district. For over 20 years, Nerlich has worked to place defibrillators in busy public spaces where they can be easily accessed in emergencies.
Nerlich’s efforts have already led to defibrillators being installed in key locations. These include Herford Town Hall, the Kleinen Felde outdoor pool, Geschwister-Scholl-Realschule school, and the city’s police station. Other sites, such as Haus unter den Linden community centre and a sports field in Hiddenhausen-Oetinghausen, also now have the equipment. His initiative has encouraged more than 100 local business owners to follow suit, installing devices in their own companies.
The new defibrillator at Herford Central Station adds to a growing network of life-saving equipment across the district. With ongoing training and an interactive map in development, authorities hope to ensure faster responses during cardiac emergencies. Nerlich’s two-decade campaign continues to expand access to these critical devices in public and private spaces alike.
