Helicopters deployed as teenage suspects elude police pursuit following theft incidents

In Hamm-Herringen, a curious incident unfolded on August 29. At around 11 a.m., two 14-year-old juveniles from Hamm made an unconventional choice, stealing a ride-on lawnmower from a local cemetery.

The theft took place on "An der Falkschule" street. After making their getaway, the juveniles drove the stolen lawnmower off the cemetery grounds. However, their joyride was short-lived as they collided with a bridge railing, causing minor damage to the lawnmower.

In the aftermath, the juveniles fled on foot, but their escape went unnoticed initially. The police were initially called to investigate a potential tractor theft due to the initial assumptions about the stolen vehicle.

To aid in the search, a police helicopter was deployed. The juveniles were eventually located, and their identities were established.

The incident was handled by the Polizeipräsidium Hamm (Police Headquarters Hamm). For further inquiries, you can contact their Press Office at Phone: 02381 916-1006, Email: [email protected], or visit their website at https://hamm.polizei.nrw/.

A criminal proceeding for theft of a motor vehicle has been initiated against both individuals. Despite the initial collision, it appears that the bridge railing was not damaged in the incident. The ride-on lawnmower, initially assumed to be a tractor, sustained only minor damage.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behaviour and respect for property, even in seemingly innocuous situations.
