Heidelberg and Kleinheubach, Miltenberg: Suspects involved in call center fraud seized valuable goods - Criminal Police seek potential witnesses for further investigation

In a concerning incident, fraudsters targeted an elderly woman in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, on Friday evening. The woman was tricked into handing over valuable items and jewelry worth a five-figure sum to an unknown collector in the Luisenstraße area.

According to the Police Headquarters Mannheim, the scam involved a call from a supposed court official claiming the woman's daughter had caused a serious traffic accident and required a high bail. The information was originally transmitted by the Police Headquarters Mannheim via news aktuell.

The Criminal Police in Würzburg are currently investigating the incident and are appealing for information from the public. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Criminal Police in Würzburg at 0931/457-1732.

In a bid to protect the elderly from such scams, the Police Headquarters of Lower Franconia launched the prevention campaign "Leg ´auf!" at the end of 2020. The aim of these campaigns is to inform, sensitize, and provide behavioral tips to older people and their relatives about scams such as "grandparent scams" and "false police officers".

The "Leg' auf!-Kampagne" can be found at this link. The contact person for the Public Relations Unit at the Police Headquarters Mannheim is Philipp Kiefner, whose email address is [email protected]. For enquiries, you can contact him at 0621 174-1111.

In addition, the Lower Franconian police are now relying on the support of young people and students for the campaigns "Ich schütze Oma und Opa" and "Chill mal Oma". The campaign "Ich schütze Oma und Opa" started at schools in Lower Franconia in July 2022. Additional links to these campaigns can be found on the same page.

The public is reminded to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The Police Headquarters Mannheim urges everyone to verify the authenticity of calls and messages before sharing personal information or valuables.
