Heavy flooding in Punjab has resulted in a staggering Rs 780 crore in damages to the region's healthcare infrastructure, as reported by minister Balbir Singh.
In the wake of the devastating floods in Punjab, the state's Health Minister, Dr. Lal Chand Kataruchak, has appealed to the Central government for a relief package. The floods have caused extensive damage to crops, houses, and infrastructure, and have left over 3.5 lakh people affected, with 1200 villages submerged.
According to the latest estimates, the damage to Punjab's health infrastructure is estimated to be worth Rs 780 crore. The floods have affected 1,280 dispensaries and health and wellness centers, 101 community health centers, and 31 sub-divisional hospitals. Machinery and medicines worth Rs 130 crore have been damaged, and the situation is critical.
Dr. Kataruchak has written to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda detailing the extent of the damage. He has also echoed his colleague Aman Arora's appeal for a relief package of at least Rs 20,000 crore for Punjab. The health department, along with several NGOs, is providing medical aid in flood-hit villages.
Unfortunately, the floods have also claimed lives. Three people have been killed in Shimla due to landslides caused by relentless rains. The situation remains grim, and the state government is doing everything in its power to provide aid and relief to those affected.
In other news, the dinner of NDA MPs at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's house on September 8 was cancelled due to the floods in Punjab. No new information about the website or app was available. The stock market and business news also remained unaffected.
The floods in Punjab continue to wreak havoc, and the state government is working tirelessly to provide aid and relief. The Central government is yet to announce a relief package, but the urgency of the situation cannot be overstated. The people of Punjab are hoping for swift action and assistance from the government in these trying times.
