Heavy Downpour Causes Accident - Two Scooter Riders Meet Misfortune
In the Rhein-Sieg District, two separate incidents occurred on August 28th due to the slippery roads caused by what is known as "summer ice".
The first accident involved a 17-year-old from Königswinter who was riding a Peugeot scooter on state road 333 (L333). The young individual lost control of the vehicle, skidded, and collided with the guardrail, resulting in minor injuries. The individual was taken to the hospital for treatment after the accident.
In a separate incident in Eitorf, a 17-year-old student had her Vespa skid out while turning onto Kelterser Straße, also resulting in minor injuries.
The accidents were caused by sudden heavy rain that mixed with dust and pollen to create a slippery film known as "summer ice". In these conditions, tires offer only a fifth of the grip on dry asphalt.
The Rhein-Sieg District Police Headquarters has provided information about these incidents, and more details can be obtained by contacting their Press Office. The Press Office contact details are: Telephone: 02241/541-2222, Email: [email protected]
It is important to note that adjusted speed and good tire tread can reduce the risk of accidents on slippery roads caused by "summer ice". Even cars can skid in such conditions, so it is crucial to drive carefully during periods of wet weather.
Both accidents involved young individuals and two-wheeled vehicles, highlighting the importance of road safety education for all drivers, regardless of the type of vehicle they are operating. Let's all stay safe on the roads and be mindful of the conditions we are driving in.
