Heavily damaging traffic collision reported in Karlsruhe, Germany
A traffic accident occurred early Sunday morning on the federal highway B36 near Karlsruhe, at the intersection of "Sudetenstraße" in Knielingen. Neither driver was injured in the incident.
The accident involved a 25-year-old driver of an Opel Corsa, who attempted a U-turn across all four lanes, colliding with a Mercedes GLC traveling southbound towards Mannheim. Both vehicles were severely damaged and had to be towed away as they were no longer roadworthy.
Investigations revealed that the Opel Corsa driver had a blood alcohol level of around 1.5 per mil, as confirmed by a subsequent alcohol test. As a result, the driver's license was confiscated.
Despite extensive searches, no information was found about the person who caused the accident.
The accident caused the B36 to be fully closed for several hours while the investigation and cleanup of debris took place. The total damage to property from the accident is estimated to be around 115,000 euros.
