Heavier rain advisory issued for the Northeast and Northern regions
Thailand is bracing for heavy rain and strong winds this weekend, as a depression moves westward in the central South China Sea. The Meteorological Department reported the depression on Saturday morning.
On Saturday, several parts of Thailand, especially the North and Northeast, are expected to experience heavy rain and strong winds. The Northeast provinces of Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Bueng Kan, Nong Khai, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lamphu, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Loei, and the North provinces of Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Phetchabun, are all in the path of the storm. The South provinces of Chumphon, Ranong, Phangnga, and Phuket, and the Central Plains provinces of Lop Buri, Saraburi, Nakhon Sawan, and Uthai Thani, are also expected to experience heavy rain.
On Sunday, the Northeast provinces of Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Bueng Kan, Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lamphu, Loei, Kalasin, Yasothon, Roi Et, Mahasarakham, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, and the North provinces of Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Phetchabun, Phitsanulok, Pichit, Sukhothai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, are all expected to experience heavy rain and strong winds. The East provinces of Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, and the South provinces of Chumphon, Surat Thani, Ranong, Phangnga, Phuket, are also in the storm's path.
The meteorologist predicting the weather development for Thailand is not named in the available sources; however, strong rain and strong winds are expected on Saturday and Sunday particularly in the provinces of Nakhon Sawan, Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Lopburi, and Samut Sakhon.
The depression has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour. The department expects provinces in Thailand to experience very heavy rain this weekend. The depression will further weaken into a low-pressure system covering Thailand's Northeast on Saturday night.
Storm Kajiki has impacted northern Thailand, resulting in 7 deaths and 5 missing. After reaching Vietnam's Quang Binh province, the depression will weaken into a depression and cover upper Laos. The depression is expected to affect Thailand until Monday.
The depression is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm before reaching Vietnam's Quang Binh province by Saturday evening. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay indoors and follow the instructions of local authorities.
