Healthcare provider Summa Health will no longer accept out-of-network insurance plans as of September 1.
Summa Health, a leading healthcare provider based in Akron, has announced a new policy aimed at streamlining its operations and financial management. As of September 1, Summa Health will no longer schedule appointments for people with out-of-network and non-contracted insurance plans, for outpatient services including specialty care and primary care.
This policy change is intended to protect Summa Health from spending resources on collecting payment from out-of-network health insurers, and to safeguard out-of-network patients from high hospital bills. It is part of Summa Health's ongoing efforts to manage its financial resources effectively.
George Strickler, who was appointed as the chair of Summa Health's Board of Directors in January, is leading the organisation. Mr Strickler brings extensive business and financial leadership experience to the role.
The new policy does not affect the cost of emergency services or emergency labor and delivery treatment. It also does not apply to patients seeking care at Summa Health's urgent care centers or emergency departments.
Summa Health is working to improve patient access to care through its partnership with MyCareOhio Coordinated Care. This partnership allows Summa Health to offer care for Medicaid patients.
Patients with questions about their insurance coverage or the new policy can contact Summa Health's customer service department for further information. The policy applies to Summa Health Medical Group, walk-in services at Summa Health Urgent Care Centers, and laboratory and radiology services.
Summa Health announced the change in an email to its patients and partners, emphasising its commitment to transparency and clear communication. The policy is intended to provide a more efficient and effective healthcare experience for all involved.
