Heads the Department of Roads and Transport: New Leadership Appointed

New Expert Joins Wuppertal City Administration

Wuppertal, Germany – Daniel Warwas, an acknowledged expert in traffic and mobility issues, has joined the city administration as the head of the department for streets and traffic. His appointment was welcomed warmly by Uwe Schneidewind, the Mayor of Wuppertal.

Warwas, who earned his master's degree in Koblenz while working, started his activity in the Administration of Roads and Traffic in Wuppertal in 2025. Prior to this, he had begun his professional career at the Technical Operations of the City of Leverkusen.

The Deputy Mayor for Urban Development, Building, and Mobility, Gunnar Ohrndorf, is also pleased to have Warwas in Wuppertal and looks forward to working with him on the city's development.

Warwas finds the hilly terrain, dense construction, and narrow valley axis of Wuppertal particularly appealing. He sees major projects like the BUGA 2031 as an opportunity to sustainably develop Wuppertal and increase its recreational value.

Warwas believes affordable, barrier-free, and easily accessible public transport is key to public acceptance of the mobility transition. He acknowledges the convenience of cars and the need to strengthen cycling and pedestrian traffic. However, he also recognizes that reallocating space in infrastructure historically oriented towards cars can lead to conflicts, but is necessary for creating real alternatives.

Warwas initially trained as a carpenter and pursued his technical A-levels in Cologne. In 2018, he moved to Wesseling as the head of the department for traffic areas. His current goal is to drive the mobility transition forward in Wuppertal, and he is aware of the maintenance backlog in the city and plans to prioritize investments in public transport infrastructure.

Closing streets or bridges may be unavoidable for Warwas in order to prioritize investments in public transport infrastructure. He is committed to making Wuppertal a city that is friendly for all modes of transport, not just cars.

Warwas' appointment to a key position in the city administration of Wuppertal is expected to bring fresh ideas and a strong focus on sustainable development and mobility solutions to the city.
