HBO resurrects an original actor from the Harry Potter film series
The magical world of Harry Potter is set to return, this time on HBO, with a new series in the works. While excitement abounds, there have been some discussions around the casting choices and the long-term commitment required for the new series.
One of the potential actors causing a stir is John Lithgow, known for his exceptional acting skills. His name has been tossed around for a role in the series, but concerns about his age and the long-term commitment required have arisen. At 79 years old, Lithgow's participation might be a challenge, given the series' potential multi-year run.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Lithgow, several other actors have been confirmed for their roles. Richard Durden has been cast as Professor Cuthbert Binns, a character known for his monotonous lectures. Finn Stephens will take on the role of Vincent Crabbe, a Slytherin student, while Elijah Oshin has been selected to play Dean Thomas, a member of the Gryffindor house.
Another familiar face returning to the Harry Potter universe is Warwick Davis. Davis, who played Professor Filius Flitwick in all eight films, will reprise his role in the new series. However, it should be noted that the role of Griphook, another character Davis portrayed in the movies, has been recast for the new series.
The role of Dumbledore, another key character, has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, the much-anticipated role of Voldemort remains a mystery. Despite Ralph Fiennes, who played Voldemort in the movies, suggesting Cillian Murphy for the part, the decision is not in his hands. Rumours of Murphy taking on the role have been circulating, but Murphy himself has denied them, and Matt Smith has also stated he is not interested in playing Voldemort.
The series' long-term commitment has also raised concerns for older actors, such as Lithgow. Brid Brennan has been cast as Madam Poppy Pomfrey, and Sirine Saba as Professor Pomona Sprout, both of whom bring a wealth of experience to their roles. William Nash has been cast as Gregory Goyle, rounding out the confirmed cast so far.
As the new Harry Potter series progresses, fans eagerly await more casting announcements and updates. The anticipation is palpable, and it seems the magical world of Hogwarts is set to charm audiences once again.
