Hazardous materials warning on the A23 highway.
On Saturday, around 13:09, numerous emergency services were called to a rest area on the A23 in Steinburg, Schleswig-Holstein, due to reports of suspected chemical vapors from a truck.
Approximately 100 emergency services, including the fire department, rescue service, police, German Red Cross, and the technical relief agency, were on the scene. Initial fears that chemical vapors had escaped from the truck were not confirmed after a thorough investigation.
The policewoman could not say exactly what hazardous material the vehicle was carrying as it was a mixed load. The truck, which was on its way to Itzehoe, was discovered to have insufficient cargo securing, preventing it from continuing its journey.
The suspected hazardous material was discovered during a routine inspection of the truck by customs to detect any escaping or leaking substances from a loaded sea container. No substances had escaped from the pressure gas containers, and it was later revealed that the strange smell was probably caused by the pressure gas containers regularly venting themselves, which is not dangerous.
It should be noted that no new information was provided about a bloody dispute in Hamburg or a building at risk of collapse that suspended train traffic in the north. Additionally, no further information was available about the Kladovo-Transport, an historical transporter involved in the transportation of illegal Jewish refugees during World War II.
The rest area on the A23 was closed due to the incident, and the hazardous material must now be transferred to another vehicle. As of the last update, which was at 9:50 on 7 September, the situation remains under control, and there have been no reported injuries or incidents.
