Hannover Under Investigation: Weapons Allegations in Hannover-Bothfeld

On Saturday, 28th September 2024, an evacuation measure will take place in Hannover-Bothfeld due to the identification of a suspected unexploded ordnance (UXO). Approximately 8,700 citizens in the area will be affected by the evacuation.

The Fire Department Hannover is responsible for the demining operation and will carry out the necessary exploratory and demining measures after all safety measures have been successfully implemented. A safety zone of 1,000 meters around the suspect point will be established for the investigation and potential defusing of the UXO.

Residents are advised to take essential items such as medication, baby or special food, and appropriate clothing when evacuating. A care center will be set up at the Integrated Comprehensive School Bothfeld (Hintzehof 9, 30659 Hannover) from 09:00. Buses will be provided free of charge for transport to the care center, departing from various locations including Koepenickweg / Treptowweg, Holzwiesen, Bahntrift, Alte Heide, Kiefernpfad, Langenforther Straße, Meierwiesen, Endpoint IGS Bothfeld. Mobility-impaired persons can request an ambulance by calling 19222.

Current information, the specific evacuation area with a detailed list of affected streets, and a map of the evacuation bus route can be found on the websites of the State Capital Hannover (www.hannover.de) and the Fire Department Hannover (www.feuerwehr-hannover.de).

The demining operation will continue on Saturday, 28th September 2024, from 08:00 until the end of operation. The operation hours for the evacuation are also on this day, from 09:00. The demining operation will take place on Thursday, 26th September 2024, from 10:00 to 15:00, and Friday, 27th September 2024, from 10:00 to 15:00.
