Hands-on Session: Exploring the Art of Experimental Design

In an exciting development for scientists and engineers, a three-part workshop is being offered to help make experimentation more efficient and effective. This workshop, presented by JMP Statistical Discovery, will provide the knowledge and resources needed to get started with Design of Experiments (DoE), a statistical approach used in the chemical and processing industries to build a deeper understanding of product, system, or process performance.

The workshop is designed to offer a faster, more predictable, and better-informed way of learning than other experimentation approaches. By reducing total experimental effort per project by an average of 50%, DoE determines the best and minimal set of experimental combinations needed to address questions upfront. This not only saves time and resources but also allows for consistent achievement of top performance at a lower cost.

Each part of the workshop includes a homework task with corresponding JMP data file. Participants are required to download a free 30-day trial of JMP's Statistical Discovery Software for the hands-on exercises during the workshop, which can be obtained directly from JMP's website.

The programme is packed with hands-on exercises, expert advice, and feedback to deepen learnings. Marco Salfi, a Senior Systems Engineer at JMP Statistical Discovery, and Owen Jonathan, an Associate Systems Engineer, will be among the experts in the programme, sharing their years of experience in putting DoE techniques into practice.

The workshop is divided into three parts:

  1. Part 1: This introduction to DoE covers the basics, including inspirational examples of the use of DoE in product design, discovery, and development, process development, scale-up, transfer, and analytical method development.
  2. Part 2: Focusing on Screening experiments, this part includes a case study, strategies for analysis, and a hands-on exercise.
  3. Part 3: Covering Formulation experiments, this final part discusses changes in design and analysis for mixture components, presents case studies, and offers a hands-on exercise.

Attending all three webinar sessions or watching them on-demand makes participants eligible for a certificate. The deadline for completing all three parts and being eligible for a certificate is June 23, 2023.

In recent years, researchers and professionals in the chemical and processing industries have successfully applied DoE to optimize reaction conditions, significantly reducing the number of required test reactions and improving process efficiency, as documented in organic chemistry and industrial engineering research publications.

Join this workshop to take your experimentation to the next level and learn how to make your work more efficient, predictable, and cost-effective with Design of Experiments (DoE) and JMP Statistical Discovery.
