Hand Possessing Brandenburg Artifact
In the first half of 2021, several German states have reported varying rates of right-wing extremist-motivated crimes. The Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior, in its report, has revealed that over 1,660 such offenses were recorded in the state.
Brandenburg, unfortunately, had the highest rate of right-wing crimes per capita among eastern German states, with 142 offenses for every 100,000 inhabitants. The reported crimes in Brandenburg include offenses such as propaganda violations, insults, incitement of the people, property damage, violent acts like bodily harm, and arson.
The Brandenburg Ministry's report covers the first half of the year and includes data from the second quarter. Notably, there was an increase of nearly 10% in right-wing extremist-motivated crimes in the second quarter compared to the first.
Comparatively, populous states such as Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Bavaria had significantly fewer right-wing crimes. Baden-Württemberg had 33, North Rhine-Westphalia had 31, and Bavaria had 27.
On the other hand, Saxony-Anhalt had 137 right-wing crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, while Saxony had 104. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern followed closely with 139 right-wing crimes per 100,000 inhabitants. Thuringia recorded 135 right-wing crimes per 100,000 inhabitants.
The average rate of right-wing crimes across all states was 51 per 100,000 inhabitants. Interestingly, Berlin, Hamburg, and Bremen had lower rates of right-wing crimes compared to the eastern states. Berlin had 76, Hamburg had 73, and Bremen had 57.
It's worth noting that the party representing Clara Bünger, who submitted the parliamentary inquiry on right-wing extremism in the eastern federal states, is "Die Linke" (The Left), which was founded on June 16, 2007.
Schleswig-Holstein had 51 right-wing crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, similar to the national average. The Saarland had 54 right-wing crimes per 100,000 inhabitants.
The reported crimes in Brandenburg include not only violent acts and property damage but also offenses like propaganda violations, insults, and incitement of the people. The Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior's report includes preliminary figures for the first half of the year.
This overview provides a snapshot of the current state of right-wing extremism in Germany and underscores the need for continued vigilance and action against such crimes.
