### Hamas Applauds Norway, Spain, and Ireland's Recognition
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz (68) made a firm statement: "Today's decision signals to the Palestinians and the world: terrorism pays off." In response, he summoned the ambassadors of Ireland and Norway for consultations.
In contrast, the terrorist organization Hamas welcomed this development. They viewed it as "an essential step towards affirming our right to our land and an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital."
"A Triumph for Brutal and Cynical Terrorists"
Michael Roth (53, SPD), the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, expressed his doubts about this turn of events: "I'm not convinced that recognizing Palestine as a sovereign state after the horrific massacres by Hamas on October 7 last year is an appropriate measure." This move, in his opinion, is more "another victory for brutal and cynical terrorists."
🔒 Understanding the Reference: While the PLO, led by President Mahmoud Abbas (88), holds dominion over the West Bank, Hamas has entirely controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007. In the previous peace talks between Israel and the PLO, it had been agreed that statehood recognition would only occur at the end of an Israel-Palestinian peace process. Disregarding this agreement, Abbas declared the Palestinian Authority as the "State of Palestine" back in 2013.
Despite this, over 100 countries recognized the declaration, but its status is limited to observer rank in the United Nations.
Beck warns that this unilateral recognition could heighten tensions, as it "inspires the conflicting and terrorist elements on the Palestinian side, strengthens Hamas, and entrenches the fronts on the Israeli side. This recognition fosters the very opposite of peace."
