Hamas Expresses Openness to Agreement - Israel Responds with "Insincere Statements"
In the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, various developments have emerged over the past few days.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces criticism from critics who accuse him of prolonging the war for political reasons. Meanwhile, around one million people reside in the largest population center in the northern, sealed-off Gaza Strip.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid has urged Netanyahu's government to reach an agreement with Hamas to end the war and release the hostages. The hostage relatives' forum has also called on US President Donald Trump to free all 48 captives and end the war.
Trump, in response, has urged Hamas to immediately release all 20 hostages. However, Hamas refers to the hostages they have taken as prisoners and has expressed readiness for a "comprehensive agreement" with Israel.
The Egyptian and Qatari mediators have proposed a ceasefire for Gaza, which Hamas has accepted. The proposal supports a 60-day truce and a two-stage release of hostages. Israel, on the other hand, has yet to officially confirm acceptance of the proposal.
Hamas's agreement includes the release of all enemy prisoners held by Hamas in exchange for a specified number of Palestinian prisoners of occupation. The organization has also agreed to the establishment of an "independent, technocratic national administration" for the Gaza Strip.
Israel's military is calling for evacuation and wants civilians to move to the south. However, only 60,000 to 80,000 residents have so far left the city towards the south. Reportedly, Hamas is allegedly trying to prevent civilians from leaving the city through intimidation and threats of violence.
Israeli police have reportedly used water cannons in some cases during protests, and thousands of people have gathered in Jerusalem to protest, according to local media. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has accused the protesters of crossing a line by blocking streets and threatening him daily with death.
The Israeli army is advancing its preparations for an invasion of the city of Gaza. In response, Hamas has reacted positively to an updated proposal by mediators. Relatives of the hostages have demanded an end to the war and an agreement for the release of the hostages outside Netanyahu's residence.
As the conflict continues, both sides remain hopeful for a peaceful resolution and the release of the hostages. The international community continues to watch closely, hoping for a swift end to the violence and a return to peace.
