Halted Truck Carrying 24 Tones of Steel on Political Route

On August 27, 2025, a semi-trailer originating from Mainz, Germany was stopped by the traffic division of the Autobahnpolizei Bielefeld at the Suřenheide rest area on the A2 highway. The inspection, focused on the control of commercial goods traffic, particularly technical defects, revealed significant issues with the semi-trailer.

The officers found a clear crack in the main frame of the semi-trailer, located on the right side at the height of the first axle. This defect could have resulted in the complete break of the main frame during the journey, potentially leading to the fall of the 24,400 kg load onto the road and causing a traffic accident with severe consequences.

For safety reasons, the semi-trailer was secured, and the responsible registration office in Mainz was informed about the incident. The driver, a 52-year-old man from Rhineland-Palatinate with German citizenship, and the vehicle owner now face administrative offense reports with fines of 200 and 300 euros respectively. Each of them also receives one point each in the traffic central register (VZR).

Press inquiries can be directed to Sonja Rehmert, Katja Küster, Sarah Siedschlag, Michael Kötter, Hella Christoph, Fabian Rickel, Caroline Steffen, Lukas Reker, Jan Grote, and the email address [email protected]. Outside of office hours, inquiries can be made to the control center at 0521/545-0.

It is important to note that the search results do not provide information about the owner of the truck from Mainz. The potential danger posed by the technical defects underscores the importance of regular vehicle inspections, especially for commercial vehicles carrying heavy loads.
