Gütersloh pair boasts the most stunning garden in Ostwestfalen-Lippe region
Gütersloh Couple Wins "Most Beautiful Garden in OWL" Competition
Susanne and Jürgen Kreft, a couple from Gütersloh, have won the prestigious title of having the "Most Beautiful Garden in OWL" with their unique, wild-romantic cottage garden. The Krefts' garden, hidden behind the Gütersloh Heidewald Stadium, covers an area of 550 square meters and features a natural, untamed style without raked beds, sealed surfaces, gravel, or plastic.
The Krefts' garden was one of 14 finalists in the competition, which attracted over 1,000 participants. Susanne Kreft, an avid DIY and upcycling enthusiast, is particularly fond of her self-built garden house. Jürgen Kreft, who previously worked in sales, finds inspiration from platforms like Instagram and Pinterest, garden magazines, or flea markets.
The Bielefeld family, Hermann and Brigitte Bergschneider, were also finalists in the competition. Their garden, covering over 1,000 square meters and featuring a swimming pond, placed second in the competition with 16.8% of the votes. Brigitte Bergschneider, from Paderborn, placed third with 11.62% of the votes and boasts a picturesque, English greenhouse in her garden.
In addition to the title, the winners of the competition, including the Bielefeld family and the Krefts, received high-quality garden articles worth over 150 euros each from an online shop. The winners and finalists of the competition can be found on the competition's official website.
Both the Krefts and the Bielefeld family are enthusiastic about exchanging ideas with other garden enthusiasts and getting new inspiration. They regularly visit other hobby gardeners for ideas and are always looking for ways to enhance their gardens further.
The "Most Beautiful Garden in OWL" competition is a celebration of the region's horticultural talent, and the winners and finalists are a testament to the creativity and passion that goes into creating a beautiful garden. The Krefts' and the Bielefeld family's gardens serve as a reminder that a beautiful garden can be achieved without the need for raked beds, sealed surfaces, gravel, or plastic. Instead, they show that a natural, wild-romantic style can create a garden paradise that is both beautiful and unique.
