In a series of significant phone calls, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan of Turkey has been actively engaging with foreign representatives to coordinate efforts for wider recognition of a Palestinian state.

On September 2, Fidan held separate discussions with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani of Qatar and Prince Faisal bin Farhan of Saudi Arabia. The conversations focused on the latest developments in Gaza ceasefire talks, as well as humanitarian aid efforts for the blockaded enclave.

During the call with Qatar, both parties assessed the ongoing Gaza ceasefire discussions and reaffirmed their commitment to improving conditions in the region. The call with Saudi Arabia also included discussions on humanitarian aid for Gaza.

In a separate phone call, Fidan spoke with Oman's Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi. Details about the conversation were not disclosed.

The calls were made in the context of growing international support for Palestinian state recognition. On September 2, Belgium announced its intention to recognize a Palestinian state at the upcoming U.N. General Assembly. This move follows similar declarations from Australia, Canada, and France.

Currently, 144 of the U.N.'s 193 member states already recognize Palestine. The countries that have done so include most of the global south, Russia, China, India, and a growing number of Western nations.

The September 22 meeting in New York will focus on Palestinian recognition. Fidan held a separate phone call with Prince Faisal bin Farhan to discuss preparations for this meeting. The discussions aimed to coordinate efforts for wider recognition of a Palestinian state.

The call between Fidan and Al Busaidi of Oman also included a pledge for coordinated steps to support Palestine. The exact details of the conversation were not disclosed.

As of now, beyond Belgium, Australia, Canada, and France, there is no publicly available comprehensive list of additional states that have officially expressed support for recognizing a Palestinian state in the UN General Assembly setting. Specific information on additional states endorsing recognition after September 2, 2021, is not currently available in the search results.

These developments reflect a growing international consensus on the need for a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the recognition of an independent Palestinian state in the occupied West Bank, annexed east Jerusalem, and Gaza.
