Guiding tutorial on creating stenciled ceramic mugs

Pour yourself a cup of inspiration as we guide you through a fun and easy DIY project - painting a coffee cup with stencils. This tutorial is perfect for beginners who are looking to add a personal touch to their drinkware.

Meet Katie, a DIY enthusiast who loves helping others create fabulous projects. With her guidance, you'll learn to transform a plain ceramic mug into a unique piece of art.

Here's what you'll need: enamel glass & ceramic paint, a ceramic mug, a paint dauber, adhesive stencils, a glass scraper and pick set, isopropyl alcohol, cotton balls, and a dual-end pick.

Before you start, ensure your mug is clean. Wipe it down with alcohol to remove any dirt or fingerprints. Now, let's plan the stencil layout and centre it on the front of the mug.

The painting process is straightforward. Apply paint to the stencil with a dauber, one word at a time. After each word, let it dry before proceeding to the next one to minimise the risk of smearing the paint. Use the dual-end pick to smooth out the paint inside the stencil, ensuring a smooth finish and eliminating bubbles.

Once the painting is complete, remove the stencil promptly to prevent pulling up the painted letter. Small specks may need to be removed from the letters after stencil removal.

Don't rush into the dishwasher with your newly painted mug. It's not dishwasher-safe and should be hand washed to preserve the design. The mug requires up to 21 days for curing to make the paint permanent, so be patient!

Happy crafting! And remember, the joy is in the journey, not just the finished product.
