"Guernsey Arts Presents: Creative Revamp"
In the beautiful Channel Islands, an exciting week is on the horizon, filled with opportunities for both artistic and dance enthusiasts.
Firstly, the Fox Open Art Competition, now in its 43rd year, is sponsored by JJ Fox International Ltd. This prestigious event is open to artists residing in the Bailiwick of Jersey and Bailiwick of Guernsey, aged 12 and over. The competition closes on the 9th of September, and winners and selected artworks will be exhibited at the Jersey Arts Centre and The George Crossan Gallery Guernsey. The overall winner will receive a grand prize of £1,000, while the winner of the Jock Russell Award for 12 to 18-year-olds will receive £500. There will also be prizes of £100 for five highly commended artists. For more information and registration, visit the Eventbrite link.
For those with a flair for dance, Mojitios is hosting dance classes for Salsa and Bachata every Wednesday in September. Heidi, a highly experienced dance teacher, will be conducting the classes. The Cuban Salsa classes will start at 7:30pm, followed by the Bachata classes at 6:15pm.
In a unique twist, the Cuban Salsa classes will lead into a Great British Detective Play with a twist, titled "Done to Death, by Jove!", which will take place next Wednesday at 8pm. Created and performed by Nicholas Collett and Gavin Robertson, the show features a spoof homage to Holmes and Watson, Poirot and Miss Marple, with the audience solving the mystery.
Meanwhile, the Arts Society Guernsey, in partnership with the Guernsey Institute, is presenting a lecture titled "The 'ISMS' - How to Understand Modern Art". This lecture, part of their education initiative, will take place at Les Cotils on Wednesday the 17th of September. The lecture is free for members, while non-members can attend for £15 at the door if space permits. The Arts Society are also offering attendance of the final 3 lectures of 2025 for only £30.
Unfortunately, due to a broken-down van on the M6, only two actors will perform the 6-actor show, adding to the farcical nature of the performance. However, this doesn't deter from the anticipation for an exciting week ahead in the Channel Islands.
