In the picturesque archipelago of Con Dao, a significant shift is underway. Until now, the island has relied on outdated diesel generators and a limited power supply, but that is set to change. The arrival of national grid electricity is expected to be a major catalyst for development in all sectors, particularly tourism, in Con Dao.

This new power source is not just a boon for the island's infrastructure; it is the key to unlocking Con Dao's vast potential. The potential for development of the nighttime economy in Con Dao is high, as energy constraints are now a thing of the past.

Sun Group, a prominent player in Vietnam's tourism industry, has conducted numerous surveys and selected locations in Con Dao in line with the island's master plan. Future urban spaces in Con Dao will feature redesigned landscapes, public parks, and community-friendly beachfronts, transforming the island into an eco-cultural, high-end resort destination.

Con Dao is repositioning itself strategically, aiming to become a special administrative zone, as stated by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on May 3. This status could further accelerate the island's development.

The island is also planning to build a new international passenger port just 2-3 km from the existing one, capable of accommodating large cruise ships. This will undoubtedly boost tourism, making Con Dao more accessible to visitors from around the world.

The new power source in Con Dao is expected to provide sufficient capacity to develop a robust marine supply chain, not only for Con Dao but for the broader southern region. This could position Con Dao as a hub for marine services, further enhancing its economic growth.

Large-scale ecological parks are set to surround An Hai and Quang Trung lakes, integrating green spaces with water protection zones. This commitment to preserving the island's natural beauty aligns with Con Dao's eco-cultural focus.

Local businesses, including Thai Binh Hotel, are optimistic about the impact of stable electricity. They believe it will significantly reduce operational costs and improve the competitiveness of the local hospitality sector.

Major corporations are preparing ambitious projects such as golf courses, commercial centres, service ports, and luxury marinas in Con Dao. However, no specific companies have been identified as preparing the construction of these facilities in Con Dao at this time.

Ben Dam Port, Con Dao's main maritime gateway to the mainland, is planning to transform into a multifunctional hub offering cargo handling, logistics services, and high-end tourism. The Ben Dam industrial cluster will also be restructured into a localized production area supporting the island economy.

The undersea electricity undertaking in Con Dao features the longest submarine cable system in Southeast Asia, with 77km under the sea and another 8.5km on the island. This impressive infrastructure is a testament to the island's commitment to modernization.

VinFast, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer in Vietnam, is exploring the possibility of building electric vehicle charging stations in Con Dao, paving the way for a transition to green mobility and sustainable tourism.

The island's bright future is not just about economic development. Con Dao is also committed to preserving its cultural heritage. New resort zones are being planned along beaches and hillsides, separate from heritage sites, to ensure tranquillity and cultural landmark protection.

Even in the midst of progress, Con Dao remains dedicated to its conservation efforts. Over 560 runners participated in the Save Turtles Run in Con Dao on August 17, to protect the fragile life of sea turtles. This event underscores Con Dao's commitment to balancing development with environmental conservation.

As Con Dao embarks on this exciting journey towards a brighter future, it does so with a promise to maintain its unique charm and natural beauty, ensuring a sustainable and harmonious growth.
