Grateful Covid-19 Patients Praise Life-Saving Medical Professionals
In Almaty, the fight against COVID-19 has seen both heartwarming recoveries and unfortunate losses. Two prominent cases of recovery are those of Anatoly Vasilyev and Ravil Tohhtibaev.
Anatoly Vasilyev, a city resident, was admitted to the ICU after testing positive for the virus and experiencing a sudden deterioration in his health. He had a high fever, cough, weakness, and 90% lung involvement. Doctors worked tirelessly for 14 days to save his life, and he was eventually discharged, now receiving home-based outpatient treatment and preparing for rehabilitation in the hospital.
Ravil Tohhtibaev faced an even more critical battle. With 100% lung involvement, he was on a ventilator for 7 days. Despite the odds, he was discharged after a 10-day struggle, expressing his deep gratitude towards his treating doctor, Rashit Mamayev, and the anesthesiologists and doctors who fought for his life.
The situation for pregnant women in Almaty has been particularly challenging. Over a thousand pregnant women have contracted the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and sadly, six have succumbed to the virus. Doctors must prioritize saving the mother's life and prevent intrauterine infection of the fetus, as seen during the peak of the pandemic when a pregnant woman with 90% lung damage was successfully saved.
Gulnura Baybolova, head of the department at City Maternity Hospital No.2, shared a remarkable story of a 23-year-old woman with 90% lung damage who was discharged after 40 days, having spent 30 days in the intensive care unit.
Currently, 35 pregnant women are still undergoing treatment (either at home or in hospitals) in Almaty. It's a testament to the relentless efforts of medical professionals like Damir Zhussupov, an infectious disease specialist, who continues to oversee the care of these patients.
These stories serve as a reminder of the ongoing battle against COVID-19 and the importance of the work being done by our healthcare workers. Each recovery is a victory, and each loss a call to action to continue the fight against this global pandemic.
