The Technical Relief Organisation (THW), a federal operational body that relies on the commitment of around 88,000 volunteers nationwide, has been providing crucial support in Thuringia and Saxony since last Wednesday. The Bavarian THW units have been at the forefront of this relief effort, with several teams already deployed in these regions.

In Saxony, a special unit "Water Damage/Pumps" from THW is on standby and ready to deploy if needed. Currently, around 50 Bavarian THW personnel are stationed in Gohrischheide, supporting leadership and coordination tasks at the deployment sites. The high-performance pumps of the THW deployment forces have been loaded onto trucks, ready for immediate action.

Meanwhile, local associations from Bavaria, including Selb, Mellrichstadt, Marktredwitz, Bayreuth, Kirchehrenbach, Forchheim, and Aschaffenburg, have also been deployed. The THW from Barmstedt and other Bavarian THW forces are also supporting firefighting efforts during wildfires and other emergencies in these regions.

In Thuringia, a THW deployment team from Kronach left for the region last week as part of the Upper Franconia assistance contingent. They traveled with two water transport containers with a capacity of around 10,000 liters. The THW's mission on the Saalfelder Height has been successfully completed.

To cater for the around 600 deployment forces in Gohrischheide, Bavarian THW personnel are also supporting the catering facilities. A logistics area has been set up in Gohrischheide to supply these forces from the fire department and other aid organizations.

THW's work includes both bilateral aid and international missions. The organisation is called upon by the federal government for civil protection work in Germany and for technical and logistical tasks within the European Union's civil protection mechanism and on behalf of UN organizations.
