Government Plot in Kharghar's Sector 16 Allegedly Illegally Occupied by Temple Trust, Complaint Filed by Local Resident Seema Tank to Panvel Authorities
In Navi Mumbai's Sector 16, Kharghar, a dispute over a government plot has raised concerns among residents. Seema Tank, a local resident, has filed a complaint against the Sri Sai Ganesh Mandir Trust, accusing them of illegal encroachment and misuse of the plot.
The plot, which is reportedly being used for karate classes and political rallies, is situated near mangroves and wetlands, an ecologically sensitive zone. Tank points out that the site's proximity to this zone may be under threat due to the unauthorized activities.
In 2024, Tank had previously complained about an alleged illegal installation of an open gym in the same area. However, calls and messages to Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ravikiran Ghodake from the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding the complaint went unanswered.
Tank's complaint demands the demolition of the unauthorized structure, a cessation of activities, and the restoration of the plot to its rightful government status. According to Tank, only a letter requesting allotment was submitted to the PMC, but no official approval or allotment was ever granted.
Prior complaints about the issue have been ignored by the authorities mentioned in the complaint, including the PMC, the CIDCO, and the Lok Ayukta. Tank's recent complaint also includes photographs and video evidence to support her claims.
The disturbance to local wildlife is another concern, with a jackal recently sighted in the vicinity. Tank questions whether officials are deliberately supporting the encroachment, and her complaint seeks a strict inquiry into the role of concerned officers.
The authorities typically responsible for investigating accountability in such cases would include the local police, the state's anti-corruption bureau, and relevant municipal or land administration departments. Tank also questions whether these authorities are fulfilling their duty to protect government property and maintain law and order.
As law-abiding citizens, Tank and others like her pay taxes, expecting officers to uphold the law and protect government property. They hope that this time, their concerns will be heard and addressed, ensuring the protection of both the environment and the rule of law in Navi Mumbai.
