Government entity ROGA set to introduce gambling certification program focused on responsible gambling practices.
The Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) and the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) have joined forces to develop a groundbreaking certification program for online gaming operators. This program aims to promote the continuing evolution of responsible gaming standards, encouraging operators to progress beyond regulatory minimums.
The partnership, which has also involved work on public awareness initiatives like the Know Your Play college education campaign, will provide independent validation of operator performance. Dr. Jennifer Shatley, executive director of ROGA, stated that the collaboration will build a trusted and independent assessment to certify robust responsible gaming standards. Sarah McCarthy, CEO of RGC, expressed pride in working with ROGA to set a new benchmark for responsible gambling in the online space.
The focus of the program is on long-term accountability. It will use a structured, data-driven approach to evaluating operator practices. Key areas of evaluation include self-exclusion, marketing, staff training, and player support tools. The certification program will be focused on the United States, with the organization in the country that developed the certification program for responsible gambling—the International Center for Responsible Gaming—playing a significant role.
ROGA members are committed to long-term progress, and this program will serve as a clear signal that the industry is backing that commitment with actions. The collaboration between ROGA and RGC has previously included joint research on increasing engagement with responsible gaming tools. The new certification program will build on years of evidence-based work and experience building RG Check as a trusted standard.
The program aims to provide a beacon for the industry, encouraging operators to prioritize the wellbeing of their players and to strive for the highest standards of responsible gaming. By fostering a more transparent, accountable, and player-focused industry, the program will contribute to a safer and more enjoyable online gaming environment for all.
