Government Confrontation: Sowore Stands Firm on Refusing to Delete Controversial Tweet in Face of Tinubu Administration
In a defiant stance, the African Action Congress's (AAC) former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has vowed not to delete a controversial social media post that has displeased the Department of State Services (DSS). Sowore's latest statement comes in response to the DSS's request to a social media platform to deactivate his account within 24 hours.
The controversial post, which Sowore has quoted in his statement, is about a political figure named Tinubu. This move by the DSS follows a protest by alleged pro-government demonstrators at the Federal High Court and the Ministry of Justice, calling for Sowore's arrest.
Sowore has accused the DSS of attempting to "export national disgrace to the US" by pressuring social media companies to silence dissenting voices. He believes the current Tinubu government is trying to silence him, a claim he has made repeatedly in the face of persistent harassment by the DSS and the police.
Sowore has cited multiple arrests, the seizure of his passport, and trumped-up charges as examples of this harassment. He considers the DSS's action as unconstitutional and a "desecration of national dignity."
In addition, Sowore has accused the DSS of falsely accusing him of terrorism financing in court. He also revealed that he was recently assaulted by armed police officers. Despite these challenges, Sowore vows to continue his campaign against President Tinubu's administration, declaring that the struggle against the alleged criminals continues regardless of his social media presence or legal status.
Sowore's rights, he states, are under attack. However, he remains undeterred, promising to continue speaking truth to power and advocating for justice and democracy in Nigeria.
