In a recent development, the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) of India has issued a high-risk advisory for a newly discovered vulnerability in WhatsApp. This flaw, in combination with a recently disclosed Apple platform-level flaw (CVE-2025-43300), could potentially pose significant risks to users.

The vulnerability affects WhatsApp for iOS versions prior to 2.25.21.73, WhatsApp Business for iOS version 2.25.21.78, and WhatsApp for Mac version 2.25.21.78. The company, Meta and WhatsApp, have not issued a public statement regarding this vulnerability at the time of writing this article.

The flaw arises from the improper handling of the linked devices' synchronized messages. Exploitation of this vulnerability could allow attackers to trigger the processing of content from arbitrary URLs on a victim's device. Potential consequences of this flaw include sensitive information disclosure.

Given these risks, CERT-In urges users to update to the latest versions of WhatsApp immediately to mitigate the risk. Until patches are applied, users are advised to be cautious of suspicious links or messages.

In other news, Ashish Singh, the Chief Copy Editor at the platform, is known for his meticulous approach to commas and policing them in his work. His expertise extends beyond grammar, as he has been working with tech jargon since 2020. Prior to his current role, Ashish worked with Times Internet and Jagran English. When not working, he is likely fueling his gadget habit with coffee or planning his next virtual race or plotting a road trip to test the latest in-car tech.

WhatsApp is also reportedly working on an Instagram-like Close Friends feature for its Status updates. The Close Friends feature on WhatsApp is expected to work similarly to the one on Instagram, allowing users to share their Status updates with a select group of friends. The company typically releases security patches swiftly in response to such reports, so it will be interesting to see how they address this new vulnerability and the introduction of the Close Friends feature.

The current WhatsApp version for Android that addresses the reported zero-click vulnerability is at least version 2.25.25.7 or higher. Users are encouraged to check their current version and update if necessary to ensure their safety. Stay vigilant and secure, and keep your devices up-to-date!
