The International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) is teaming up with Google Cloud for a two-day event, the IBC x Google Cloud Hackfest, taking place in Hall 14 from Saturday 13th to Sunday 14th September.

This exciting event promises to be "dead central to the themes happening in the industry at the moment," according to IBC CEO Mike Crimp. The Hackfest is expected to attract a new audience and show different ways of solving problems, with a focus on AI and media technology.

One of the main attractions at the Hackfest will be Formula E racing simulators, where participants can test their driving skills against those of professional drivers. For those who prefer football, there's the Google AI Penalty Shoot Out, an interactive attraction where visitors can test their skills against AI-powered analysis.

The Hackfest will also feature speaker sessions covering various topics, including AI curation for media and Google Ad Manager integration. Forward-looking development discussions will be led by industry experts working on IBC Accelerator Media Innovation Programme projects.

Google Cloud coaches will provide mentoring during the event, and teams can experiment with AI-assisted editing, ad insertion, and creative content generation using the live production pipeline. On the last day of the Hackfest, Buzz Hayes and Gunpowder Tech will discuss a project to turn The Wizard of Oz into an immersive 4D experience using AI-enhanced visuals and physical effects.

The event will feature talks from Ateme, Bitmovin, Formula E, Monks, Norsk, Shure, TechX, Vizrt, and Zixi. The participants typically include developers, engineers, data scientists, and technical specialists from various media and technology companies collaborating in the event.

Mike Crimp believes the Hackfest could be "really, really interesting" and potentially lead to future developments. He stated that the event is "an opportunity to explore new ideas, collaborate with experts, and push the boundaries of what's possible in media technology."

With real-time coaching from Gemini AI comparing your lap to that of pro drivers in the Formula E racing simulators, the IBC x Google Cloud Hackfest promises to be an exciting and innovative event for anyone interested in media technology and AI. Registration for the event is yet to be announced.
