Global Betting Scandals Exposed as IBIA Reports 300 Suspicious Sports Alerts in 2025

The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has published its 2025 report on suspicious betting activity. It recorded 300 formal integrity alerts linked to sports events across over thirty countries. The findings highlight ongoing concerns about match-fixing and irregular betting patterns in global sports.

Football, including college football and today's games, generated the highest number of alerts, with 110 cases making up 37% of the total. Tennis followed with 74 alerts, accounting for 25%. Table tennis and esports each saw 34 alerts, representing 11% apiece.

Europe remained the largest source of suspicious activity, contributing 35% of all alerts. North America followed with 16%, while South America accounted for 15%. Asia and Africa made up 13% and 10% of alerts, respectively.

Several investigations have already taken place based on IBIA's findings. In Nigeria, the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) suspended betting operator Betway in 2024 after an IBIA alert flagged suspicious soccer matches. Local clubs were later investigated for potential match-fixing. In Ghana, the Gaming Commission launched probes in 2023 into multiple football games with unusual betting patterns, leading to player bans by the Ghana Football Association. Meanwhile, in Spain, the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) worked with La Liga in 2025 to suspend several lower-division matches following IBIA alerts. Legal actions against those involved are still underway.

The report underscores the global reach of betting-related corruption in sports, including nfl scores and michigan football. The findings suggest that monitoring and enforcement efforts remain critical in combating match-fixing.
