Glimmer of Hope Revived for Struggling Students at Belgut Starehe Educational Institutions

The second edition of the Belgut Marathon, an initiative spearheaded by Belgut MP Nelson Koech, has proven to be a significant community-driven education fundraiser in the region. The marathon, which aims to merge athletics with education, has received high-profile support from political leaders, including President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, each donating Sh3 million.

The funds raised, totalling Sh42 million, will be used to construct a multipurpose hall and dormitories in both the Belgut Starehe Girls Centre and Boys Centre. This development comes as a relief for students like Eveline Chebet, a Form Two student at the Girls Centre, who was facing unpaid school fees.

With the resumption of construction on a 600-capacity dormitory at the Girls Centre, Chebet, along with at least 84 other students, can now look forward to uninterrupted studies, brighter futures, and the assurance that their community is supporting them. Chebet, who aims for an A in her KCSE, now has realistic hopes of completing her secondary school education.

Dozens more students at the Boys Centre are also benefiting from the funds. Koech, the brains behind the marathon, stated that for students like Chebet, the impact of the marathon is already profound. He also plans to expand infrastructure in both schools to accommodate the growing number of needy students from next year.

The contributions from leaders and well-wishers have made the Belgut Marathon one of the region's biggest community-driven education fundraisers. Koech revealed that the construction of the dormitory at the Girls Centre has already resumed and is set for completion within three months.

The Belgut Marathon, in its second year, is making a significant impact on the local community, providing opportunities for education and infrastructure development for needy students. The merger of athletics with education is not only raising funds but also fostering a sense of community and support for the future generation.
