Ghana-Germany School Partnership Thrives on Sustainability and Shared Growth
A long-standing school partnership between Ghana and Germany has continued to grow, overcoming challenges and expanding its impact. Since 2015, the collaboration between GPI in Techiman, Ghana, and SfE Berlin—known as SONED—has focused on sustainable development, training, and cultural exchange. Recent years have seen new funding, fresh initiatives, and the arrival of participants like Linda Limbadega, who now works in Berlin while preparing for her future career.
The partnership began in 2015, launched by a development policy group from Berlin-Friedrichshain. Among its founders were Jan 'Kipper' Fischer, an SfE graduate and SONED co-founder, and Simon Raschke, a teacher at SfE and board volunteer. Their shared vision centred on the motto 'Learning from each other', with GPI specialising in permaculture and sustainable farming, while SfE contributed expertise in self-organisation.
The SONED partnership has evolved from a small initiative into a programme with regional influence. With stable funding, practical training, and ongoing exchanges, it connects communities in Ghana and Germany while preparing for new projects in Kenya. Participants like Limbadega now gain firsthand experience abroad, contributing to the programme's goal of shared learning and sustainable development.
