Ghana-Germany School Partnership Expands with New Sustainable Education Projects
A long-standing school partnership between Ghana and Germany continues to grow, bringing together sustainable education and cultural exchange. The SONED initiative, linking the Ghana Permaculture Institute (GPI) and Berlin’s School for Adult Education (SfE), has been fostering collaboration since 2015. This year, new funding and expanded projects are opening further opportunities for participants on both sides.
The partnership began in 2015, launched by a development policy group from Berlin-Friedrichshain. Its core idea—'Learning from each other'—reflects the strengths of both organisations: GPI specialises in sustainable development, while SfE focuses on self-organisation and community-led learning. Key figures like Simon Raschke, a teacher at SfE, and Jan 'Kipper' Fischer, a co-founder of SONED, helped shape the early stages of the project.
The SONED partnership remains active, with ongoing exchanges and practical projects like waste management and community kitchens. The switch to DAJW funding allows for more diverse activities, ensuring the initiative can adapt and expand. Participants from both countries continue to build skills while strengthening ties between Ghana and Germany.
