Germany’s Wine Ministers Unveil Bold Plan for Viticulture’s Future

Wine ministers from Germany's eight wine-growing states gathered at Eberbach Abbey in the Rheingau on November 20–21, 2025. The two-day conference focused on shaping the future of German viticulture with new policy guidelines. Representatives from Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia attended the event. Bavaria's wine minister Michaela Kaniber was represented by her chief of staff, Hubert Bittlmayer, while Hesse's minister Ingmar Jung joined in person. The conference concluded with a shared commitment to the long-term sustainability of German viticulture. The new guidelines will now guide funding, regulation, and industry support across the eight wine-growing states.
