Record in complaints about mail - but situation improves - Germany’s postal service faces record complaints in 2025 crisis

Complaints about Germany's postal services have surged in 2025, hitting record levels. Over 44,000 grievances were logged in the first nine months alone—a 40% rise compared to the same period last year. The Bundesnetzagentur, the federal network regulator, has also seen a slight increase in submissions related to postal issues.

The peak of dissatisfaction came in July 2025, with more than 9,000 complaints filed in that month alone. Disruptions were particularly severe in Schleswig-Holstein and the Berlin-Brandenburg region. In response, the postal service hired extra staff to ease delays and stabilise operations.

The rise in complaints highlights ongoing challenges for Germany's postal network. While staffing adjustments have helped reduce delays, the regulator's expanded authority could lead to stricter enforcement. The total number of grievances for 2025 remains significantly higher than in previous years.
